Modular Kids Playset

This playset was designed to give children the agency to actively alter and redefine their play environment. By allowing users to clog drains, rearrange ladders and bridges, and manipulate different modular components, the design creates a constantly changing landscape that encourages exploration and experimentation. Rather than prescribing a single way to interact with the space, the project invites children to shape their own experiences and discover new forms of play through collaboration and creativity.

I designed this modular playset to encourage children to take an active role in constructing and adapting their surroundings. The structure features movable ladders, platforms, bridges, and a tube slide, along with stepping stones that regulate the amount of water collected beneath the playset. These shifting water levels introduce an additional sensory and environmental component, allowing the space to transform physically based on the children’s decisions. Every interactive element was intentionally designed to be usable and adjustable by children themselves, fostering independence, imagination, problem-solving, and a stronger sense of ownership over the environment they create.
