Pollinator Restroom

This design highlights local bee populations by providing a safe haven for endemic plant species and their pollinators to thrive. Created in tandem with my "Pollinator Pavilion" project - this pavilion provides a steady environment for pollinators to build nests.

This design consists of two simple bathroom spaces. The first structure utilizes cylindrical bays for bee houses, making the bathroom look as though it is covered in petals. The second structure focuses on the growth of native plants and is adorned with green walls and ample potting space.

The bathroom that utilizes bee houses only allows bees to burrow within the walls. I had envisioned this structure to feature doubled walls with a gap in the center that the bees could populate. This would lead to any visitors being surrounded by bees while still maintaining a safe barrier.

This project was inspired by the discomfort that can arise through coexistence and compromise. I wanted to encourage closer interaction between humans and pollinators in hopes of dispelling fear through exposure. What made this project especially interesting was that it was not designed primarily for human comfort, which presented a unique and compelling design challenge.
