Pollinator Pavilion
This design highlights local bee populations by providing a safe haven for endemic plant species and their pollinators to thrive. Created in tandem with my "Pollinator Restroom" project - this pavilion provides a steady environment for pollinators to build nests.
The pavilion consists of a hemispherical dome with a vast array of cylindrical bays that hold bee boxes. This creates the illusion of a giant flower on the outside while providing numerous spaces for pollinators to nest. The dome itself was envisioned to act similarly to a greenhouse - protecting the inside from excessive UV and providing a stable climate.
This project was inspired by the discomfort that can arise through coexistence and compromise. I wanted to encourage closer interaction between humans and pollinators in hopes of dispelling fear through exposure. What made this project especially interesting was that it was not designed primarily for human comfort, which presented a unique and compelling design challenge.
This project was modeled in Rhino and then imported into blender for texturing and renders. The bees themselves in addition to the vegetation were modeled in Blender.
